Do you want an apple/orange (a banana)?
Do you eat apples/oranges/bananas?
Do you want some shrimp? (plural)
The shrimp is cooked perfectly. (plural or singular)
Generally shrimp (singular) is used to speak of any quantity even if there is one or many.
Shrimp can also be used as an adjective to mean small. Example: Those boys are shrimps compared to those girls. The boys are small; the girls are not small.
