If you heard the word from an English native speaker, that is because some french words are widely used by all English speaking people, irrespective of nationality. Yeah exactly.it's a french word which is a formal one it simply means Good Morning .as the previous friend has already mentioned she is right...like hello, in english. .The only different between hello and bounjour is that we can say hello anytime of the day..but Bonjour is used only in the morning time.but i heard some people who used also in the evening.i don't want to enter to details .it is almost of the time used to start a conversation .we can also say Salut it's a french word too has the same meaning as Bonjour...but there is a small different between them...i hope i answered as you want
