"close your exercise book!" "mach zu" (or "macht zu") is imperative mood of the verb "zumachen". As "zu" is the stressed prefix, it appears to be separated from the rest of the word in the sentense. Viel Spass beim Lernen! :)

I think both versions are possible. "mach!" is a little bit more colloquial

Der Imperativ des Verbs "machen" ist "mache" Ich weiß niemand spricht das E ( außer mir ) , aber schreiben sollte man es ! Mache das Heft zu ! The Imperativ of the word "machen" is "mache" I know nobody pronounce the E ( exept me ) but you should write it ! Sorry , i didn´t want to sound like an asshole. Anyhow "canoo" is saying both versions "mache" and "mach" are possible , I think they are wrong. hm,..what do you think ?

Mach das Heft zu! (= 1 person with 1 copybook) Mach die Hefte zu! (= 1 person with more than 1 copybooks) Macht die Hefte zu! (many persons/ many copybooks) Machen Sie die Hefte zu!* (=many persons/ many copybooks) Macht das Heft zu (=many persons, with only one copybook) *This version is more formal than version 3. The teacher is not very familiar with the students.

Hello 波 仔, " Close the copybook" It is either "Mach das Heft zu" or "Macht die Hefte zu" This is an order to close the copybook ,so it is either addressed to: - You = Mach (du) das Heft zu or -You(plural) = Macht ihr die Hefte zu ( If you are addressing more than one person, they would be rather closing more than one copybook, thus *die Hefte* = the copybooks. Mach ... zu ( Verb zumachen) = close das Heft = the copybook die Hefte = the copybooks
