"The catbird seat" is an American English idiomatic phrase used to describe an enviable position, often in terms of having the upper hand or greater advantage in any type of dealing among parties. The phrase derives from the common catbird's habit of making mocking calls from a secluded perch.
NEVER before heard this expression. (Native speaker of New Zealand English, similar to British English)
For a yacht, similar to "crow's nest"?

I’ve heard it as one of many folksy baseball terms, meaning a count of 3-0 putting the batter in the catbird seat (very good position), but I can’t find any Internet corroboration of that meaning. Used figuratively, more common would be just “the driver’s seat”.
Here it would just mean a high point.
