Hello linky, It is to emphasize the certainty of something. When someone needs to hear from you that something is true and certain you use it to remove any doubt. "Are you coming tonight?" "Sure as hell" It is informal way of speaking anyways. If you are talking officially with seniors at work or in an interview for example, it is not recommended to use it. There is another idiom conveying the same meaning : "sure as God made little green apples" .

Hello Linky "sure as hell" means it is certain, absolutly sure, no doubt. "hell" = inferno The opposite of "hell" is "Heaven"

It means "very sure", "absolutly" or "without a doubt". It's also used to emphasize something. Example: Q: Did Laura win the race? A: Yes! She sure as hell did! The answer "Yes, she did" would be correct, but adding "sure as hell" adds emphasis and enthusiasm to the sentence. Q: Are you hungry? A: No, but I could sure as hell use a drink of water! Any phrase with the word "hell" can be offensive in some situations or with some people. You sure as hell should not use that word in a business environment. ;-)

Prov. Good (or bad) things do not just happen a few at a time, but in large numbers all at once. Fred: I can't believe this. This morning I had a flat tire. When I went to the garage to get the tire patched, I discovered I didn't have any money, and I couldn't even charge it because my credit card's expired. Jane: It never rains but it pours.

Yes I agree that this is slang and should never be used in a formal situation. You could say 'sure as eggs' instead.
