“A shipment from Canada was received 2 days ago” past passive

Robert gave an excellent answer. Your beginning grammar book should explain the simple past and the present perfect in the initial chapters. The famous English Grammar in Use by Murphy covers them in the first 20 pages. The passive voice of the simple past and the present perfect follow the same rules as the active voice.

They are two ways of saying exactly the same thing. :)
