Unlike the tough dogs in the movies, dogs with softer feet wear booties when they run.

I know it is confusing!
"Booties" is just another way of saying "small boots."
Booties are usually made from a soft material, worn by babies for comfort or dogs for extreme heat or cold.
Side note: Women's ankle boots could also be referred to as "booties" because they are small boots! =)
