How do you say "career path" like "that employee chose a new career path"? (pin yin please)
I have heard "zhi ye gui hua" and "zhi ye sheng ya", not sure if either of these is better, or if there is another way to say it. I'm a trying to say "The real owner of your career path is you."
Thank you!A Chinese colleague gave me another option: 职业发展.
A morsel of food for thought for Dark Panther: While I agree that 拼音 alone is not a good thing, I'd recommend avoiding telling people to "forget pinyin" because it's the basis for the most popular method for typing Mandarin on a computer (MS IME Pin Yin...).
Thanks for answers, everyone.

There isn't much difference between "career" and "career path".
Google gives 職業生涯 (zhí yè shēng yá).

要我来回答的话,很简单,按字面翻译即可:职业道路 zhi ye dao lu
that employee chose a new career path 他选择了一条新的职业道路

职业生涯 means the blueprint of your whole career life while 职业规划 refers to the details of the blueprint, like setting goals for every step till achieve your final goal.
职业路径lu4jing4 is sort of like the road of your career life.
I partly agree with Dark Panther, it's a bad idea that rely on pinyin, you need to know the corresponding characters, and it's a must cause nobody uses pinyin to write or chat, pinyin only helps you read the character, meanwhile, you cant "forget pinyin", it's a necessary access to Chinese world =p
加油!
