What do 'Follow' and 'Followers' words mean in context of this site?
Hi, I'm helping with translation of this site into Ukrainian. I want to ask NATIVE English speakers:
What do 'Follow' and 'Followers' words mean in context of this site?
P.S. WordNet says:
follower (Noun)
a person who accepts the leadership of another

For example, if you believe in the Muslim religion, you are a follower of "Islam".
If you are with a group of people, and one person is telling the rest of the people what to do, and they DO it, they are "following" this person. (This would be the definition that Wordnet gave you!)
Another meaning of the word "follow" can be, to continue along behind something or someone, or to come after, behind, or be the next in a sequence.
For example: if you are walking behind someone, and going wherever they go, you are "following" them. Likewise, if you are driving your car and you go wherever the car in front of you goes, you're following them.
Another example, if you are watching a car race, they could say, "The blue car is ahead, followed by the red car." The blue car being in front, the red car being behind, or after it.
With websites, however, such as italki, when you choose to "follow" someone, it usually means that you will receive updates from them or their profile, or information that they share. In other words, clicking "following" them means to continue to be informed and updated with what they are doing and sharing on the website.
I hope this helps ^^
