About the word 말씀
I came across this word today 말씀 in 천천히 말씀해 주십시오. However when I looked up 말씀 in my dictionary I couldn't find it. I did find the word 말투 though.
Are they the same? Why change them if they are, Politeness?

말씀 is honorific (or humble). 말씀하다 means speak, and is the honorific form of 말하다

I think 말투 means a way somebody speaks.
