Namaste or Namaskaar generally said to the person who is elder than you in order to give him respect. Similarly you will be respected by your younger once. It can be used for greeting someone like Guest's. It's an Indian tradition and is gift of our culture for respecting elders.

NAMASTE is said when we meet an elder person. It is used for respectful greeting to elders. NAMASTE and NAMASKAAR both are same in meaning but differs in the form of language, NAMASKAAR in sanskrit nd NAMASTE in hindi (hindi is a derieved language and it is derieved from sanskrit itself). It is widely believed in india that SANSKRIT is the base language for most of the indian languages nd many words from sanskrit is also adopted by the language of other countries.
