Hello,
I have been working FOR the whole day.
Or
I have been working the whole day?
People over the internet say that the second option is correct, but I know we have to put FOR before the period we’ve been working for. Please let me know what is correct.

Both are correct, the difference is in casual speech versus technically using correct grammar. Technically yes it is FOR the whole day. However in casual speech, just about everyone leaves out "for".

The second is correct.
You would use “for” if you were saying
I have been working for 8 hours.
