When do you use "the following" / "below"?
I have basic understanding of these expression, so my question is mainly about different between them.

Are these both correct? (#2 sounds a bit unfamiliar to me)
Is there any situations that "the following" works while "below" doesn't, or the opposite case?

"What I want to ask is the following" sounds better in this context because it follows the statement right after. "Below" is when it is listed further down the page.
