Marlene is an exceptional Spanish teacher. I’ve had over 50 lessons with Marlene, and every single one has been great. She is always fully prepared with thoughtful activities and well‑structured lessons, yet she also creates a comfortable, natural environment where conversation flows easily. I genuinely look forward to talking with her each week. Marlene has a gift for making you feel at ease, which is exactly what helped me finally speak Spanish with confidence. My family in Latin America were shocked at how much I’ve improved over the past year — and that progress is entirely thanks to her patience, consistency, and teaching style. I have met 15 tutors on Italki and been working regularly with about 7 of them. While I am extremely grateful to all of them, Marlén stands out. As a conversationalist, Marlén is the one with whom I feel the most comfortable (a downside is that now I'm more "fluent" when talking with her than with other people). As I progressed further, we got to talk about literature. Only then did I realize that she is a master of the Spanish language and Hispanic literature (pun intended - she does have a master's), not just an "equis", run-of-the-mill native speaker. Over the past year, we have read about 30 short stories together. I appreciate the time that she spends outside of the class, though admittedly she reads faster than I do :). We also talk about subtleties of the language and mistakes that native speakers make, and her explanations never disappoint me. I'm sure that she can cater to all your needs, be it grammar, structured lesson or conversation.

I’ve been meeting with Marlén at least once a week for several months, and every lesson has been outstanding. Whether we focus on pronunciation, grammar, rhythm, or something else, she always makes the lesson engaging and genuinely valuable.

Marlén es una de las mejores maestras que se puede tener. Siempre es un gusto hablar con ella cada semana. Aunque sigo aprendiendo, se nota que ya no me trabo demasiado al momento de hablar.
