Hi! I'm Joey, born and raised in the Netherlands. I like nature, animals, travelling and of course languages. I like to help students learn or improve their Dutch. Dutch is my native language, but I also speak English, Spanish and German. I teach Dutch grammar, vocabulary, practice reading, writing, pronunciation and more fluent speaking, and I try to do all of this in a fun way, as I believe you learn better when you're enjoying the process. During our first lesson, I am interested to know about your learning goals. Why do you want to learn Dutch and what do you wish to achieve with the language? I will also assess your current Dutch level and with all of this in mind, I will make a personalized lesson plan, perfectly suited to your language needs.

Joey is a very good teacher. He is patient and speaks clearly and slowly, which makes learning easier. He always brings different texts to discuss during the lessons. The classes are always interesting and help me feel more confident speaking English.

Ik heb echt genoten van de les. Normaal gesproken voel ik me een beetje ongemakkelijk bij nieuwe mensen, maar Joey zorgde ervoor dat ik me meteen op mijn gemak voelde. Wat ik ook erg fijn vond, was de gestructureerde aanpak van de les. Alles was duidelijk opgebouwd en goed voorbereid. Hij legde onbekende woorden in het Nederlands uit, en ik vond dat heel leerzaam. Ik kijk ernaar uit om meer lessen te volgen!

Ik volg al ruim twee maanden conversatielessen met Joey, en ik merk duidelijk verschil in hoe comfortabel ik me voel om Nederlands te spreken. Joey is altijd goed voorbereid, geeft me de tijd en ruimte om te spreken en stelt vragen om dieper op het onderwerp in te gaan. Hij corrigeert mijn fouten op een prettige manier, vaak door zelf het juiste taalgebruik te modelleren in plaats van alles expliciet te verbeteren. Dat helpt enorm voor mijn zelfvertrouwen. De onderwerpen die hij in de les brengt zijn altijd interessant, en ik merk dat ik er vaak ook met anderen over wil praten. Als hij ziet dat ik in een onderwerp geïnteresseerd ben, bereidt hij voor de volgende les iets daarover voor. Kortom, een prima docent die ik zeker kan aanraden.

I’m taking conversation practice lessons with Joey, and the experience has been excellent. Each session is engaging and dynamic, with discussions on a wide range of interesting topics that feel both relevant and thought-provoking. He is attentive, encouraging, and genuinely invested in the conversation, which makes it easy to practice speaking and build confidence in expressing my ideas. His positive energy and responsiveness create a comfortable learning environment, and he consistently adapts the discussion to my level and interests, keeping the lessons stimulating. Overall, these sessions have been both enjoyable and highly effective for improving my speaking skills.
