Since I’ve had plenty of experience reading and writing in Korean, I can help you work on your academic reading and writing skills.
If you’re up for the challenge of reading books in Korean, we can definitely try it out together. We’ll pick a book, read through it, break down any grammar points you’d like to clarify, and most importantly, put them into practice by making sentences and incorporating them into conversations. The same goes for other materials too!
✏️ During our lessons, I’ll also write down what you say, suggest more natural ways to say things, and share everything with you through Google Docs, so you can review and track your progress easily.

🌟From absolute beginners to advanced learners: fully customized classes for everyone🌟
✅ If you're an absolute beginner, we'll start with learning 한글 and then move on to basic grammar lessons combined with speaking practice.
✅ If you’ve already started learning Korean on your own and now feel like it’s time to add some real practice, we’ll definitely practice more real-life Korean with diverse topics and corrections.
✅ If you’d like to diversify your input and expand your vocabulary, we can incorporate different materials such as articles, K-dramas, movies, or books, whatever works best for you. Along the way, we can practice all four skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing.

Today we had a great conversation about the developmental issues in Jeju, based on a periodical article that sseam suggested last time. The article gave a very good overview on the contemporary history of this special island in Korea. I was so glad that sseam helped me to engage in a rather technical discussion about political economy and society. Look forward to more conversation!!

I asked Hyeonyoung for a single lesson about travel Korean to help me prepare for an upcoming trip. Hyeonyoung prepared and delivered a lesson far above my expectations. She made a document of useful travel expressions and gave me plenty of chances to practice the language and make my own sentences. It is clear that she cares for her students and takes her role as a teacher seriously. Hyeonyoung is absolutely delightful to have as a teacher and I hope to have some lessons with her in the future when I can commit more time to learning Korean.

This was my first (trial) lesson with 현영 선생님 and I couln't be happier! This is exactly what I was looking for. 현영 선생님 prepared questions for discussion and gave me feedback on my mistakes afterwards. Almost all the lesson was taught in Korean which is exactly what I need.
Thank you 현영 선생님! I can't wait for another lesson!

Today we had a very fruitful discussion on the family culture and gender equality in South Korea and East Asia more generally, based on a journal article written in Korean that seongsangnim suggested to me. It was not an easy read with more long sentences written in academic style, but seongsangnim helped me a lot by analyzing and simplifying the more difficult sentences. Seongsangnim is always so friendly, polite, and encouraging. She types the more important sentences (especially those uttered by me) from class and sends me afterwards for reference and revision. Since seongsangnim grows up and lives in Jeju (but definitely speaks in very standard Seoul accent), she is quite unique in being able to offer the perspective from this special and beautiful island - the history, society and politics. Highly recommended especially if you are looking for someone who can teach you Korean beyond the everyday topics. Thank you! ^^

My first lesson with Hyeongyoung sseongsangnim went very well. She gave me a few newspaper articles to choose before class and we decided to talk about the politics of right-wing parties in US and Korea. We had a good talk in Korean only. Sseongsangnim is a very good listener and she typed what I said on a google doc with some corrections after class so that I can study after class. She is very friendly and patient, so you will get more confidence to speak. Thank you!!

I took the Korean Through Stories & Media class with 현영 선생님 and she prepared many different books to go over which was nice to gauge where I am at. She also encouraged me to ask questions when I did not understand something, and utilized the messages to write vocabulary she used that I did not understand. So I feel that I learned a lot in this lesson about how to approach reading as well as getting speaking practice and new vocabulary to review.
