Hello!! I'm Wakako!! I'm from Kumamoto, Japan, and I've been living in the United States for about 15 years. I graduated college in the US. I learned English from zero, so I know the excitement and hardships of learning different language! I am friendly and talkative. I enjoy teaching Japanese and sharing our culture. I'll do my best to help you understand and to answer any questions. I may not be a professional teacher, but I want to be like your friend who can enjoy conversations and doesn't make you feel afraid of making mistakes. My main focus is to make you feel confident in Japanese and to teach you real practical Japanese (not just text book style)! ★ Intermediate to Advanced level learners: The lessons are mainly on conversation styles. I believe that the best way to improve language skills is through actual conversations. I would like you to apply the grammar and vocabulary that you have learned and get used to using them. I will teach phrases that fit better and sound more natural in the conversation as we go by. ★ For Beginner learners: We will enjoy having a conversation in Japanese. I'll try to correct the mistakes as we go by and teach you the phrases fit more naturally in the conversation. If you already have some knowledge about Japanese and want to try to use the phrases/words/grammar you learned, this is the lesson for you!

Another fun lesson! Wakako always makes me feel comfortable speaking freely without worrying about mistakes. Talking with her helped me realise that I can express much more than I originally thought.

Wakako-sensei was very patient and understood most of my broken Japanese while helping me build correct sentences. The 45 minutes were used mostly chatting about everyday life subjects, like you would with a friend. Wakako is very enthusiastic and never runs out of topics to chat about. She also wrote a corrected version of what I said in the chat for future reference. Looking forward to our next lesson!

Wakako is kind, patient and very thorough. She's calm and focused, which makes it easy to feel comfortable during the lesson. We've done conversation classes and I've really appreciated how she always has a topic suggestion so that I do not need to focus on both speaking and coming up with a topic.
