Hi, I’m Makiko 🌸
I’m a native Japanese tutor who works with beginners to intermediate learners.
I focus on creating a friendly, safe space where you can speak a lot, make mistakes, and grow step by step.
In my lessons, you don’t just study grammar — you practice speaking and build confidence.
I offer two main lesson types:
📘 Step-by-Step Beginner Class (with GENKI) – for total beginners
🗣️ Speak More Japanese – Level Check & Practice – for speaking practice

Out of all the Japanese teachers I've had, Maki-san has been by far my favorite. She quickly understands what you already know, then introduces you slowly to new grammar and vocabulary. We practice sentence making a lot, which is a style that suits me. Maki-san is very patient and encourages my learning. Studying on my own has been quite disorganized and overwhelming, but Maki-san has brought structure into my learning process. I feel very motivated now and I feel I am steadily progressing. Step-by-step. :)

I am so happy that I have a Makiko san as my teacher of Japanese language. Studying process with her feels so easy and enjoyable. I understand every word and sentence now, can speak a little bit and can answer questions with confidence. Another great lesson with Maki-san! We spoke in Japanese for a bit in the beginning of our lesson and then went over grammar points in Genki while reinforcing said grammar using output examples. Don’t hesitate to take a lesson!
