Hi there :) My name's Carl. I'm a 34-year-old from Portland, OR. My interests include writing, comics/anime, pets of all kinds (especially cats), chess, and learning new things about the world. I grew up writing all sorts of stories and books, mostly fantasy and science-fiction. I went to school for Dramatic Writing (screenwriting) and have since published several of my own books. Recently, I started learning Spanish. I want to help others who are also on a journey learning a new language. Whether you're someone who wants to write stories in English or just wants to talk about your favorite books, movies, or TV shows, book a lesson and we can have a chat!

I'm new to tutoring, but I am a very patient person and I understand what it's like to struggle with speaking a new language. I'm working on my 120-hour TEFL certificate! I started tutoring in September of 2025. Before this, I worked as a substitute teacher in schools near me and as a ghostwriter on various freelance projects, which I still do from time to time. As a tutor, my main goal is to impart my wealth of writing knowledge to my students. In our lessons, we can write together, I can critique your writing and point out areas for improvement, or we can build your vocabulary by introducing new words and phrases.

내 강의 및 지도 스타일

In my lessons, I prefer an approach that meets students where they are. In the trial lesson, I'll start by assessing where you are. We might write a few sentences about your favorite topic or just talk for a couple minutes. From there, I'll recommend areas you can focus on. I always let the student lead: it's up to you what sort of lessons you want, but I can make recommendations. Options include writing lessons, where we focus on basic skills like using parts of speech correctly and different verb tenses, talking lessons, where we casually chat about your favorite shows, movies, or books, or vocabulary lessons, where we learn new vocabulary each week by writing stories together.
