Hello everyone! My name is Abby, and I love languages. I'm originally from California, USA, and I have lived in Japan for 11 years. I spent three of those years teaching English full-time in Japanese elementary and junior high schools, and eight years working in IT, marketing, and translation in a Japanese office.
I've also taught adults in community centers, and tutored university students from Japan and other countries in ESL, and I've been teaching on italki for six years!

Language should be fun! I think it's important to try speaking, even if you make mistakes. Mistakes are the best way to learn, so I like to encourage students to speak and try to communicate their ideas through conversation. Abby is a highly qualified, intelligent and supportive teacher. The best thing about our lesson is that she picked up on my mistakes in grammar and wording in detail. Instead of cutting me off when I was speaking, it was very thoughtful of her to make written corrections and examples for me. Also, she asked concise yet thought-provoking questions to keep me thinking.
I have realized that I didn't give a good account of myself in some of my answers, but I will do my best to be more productive next time.
