I’ve been taking lessons from Mizuka Sensei for a while and I’ve come to the conclusion her superpower is consistent inspiration. At least for me, learning language has had several peaks and valleys. I hit the frustration wall often - yet Mizuka sensei always finds a way to encourage you to continue or find a breakthrough point - even a small one. That’s the real secret, to have a teacher who encourages you through the plateaus. She’s really committed to your success as a student.

To convey my most accurate sentiments, I must resort to English. I just want to say that I always look forward to our exchange of dialogue spiced with teaching moments. The most important and rare quality that this wonderful lady possesses is that she is an almost inexhaustible source of goodness. She devotes herself completely to whatever task she attempts, and her positive energy and attitude is highly contagious, but not in a loose way. She’s kind and understanding and patient, but also highly organized. Frankly, I don’t want to praise her too much because I fear generating too much competition in trying to book a time slot with her. But if you are a worthy student who can also impart something positive back to the teacher . . . Be that your devotion to learning the world’s hardest language or to learn about the teacher’s view of the world . . . And you can give back something positive to our teacher to keep her spirits and energy high . . . Then by all means we can share lol

One of the great things about learning with Mizuka sensei is how she is always so willing to adapt a lesson in real time to focus on the important parts that need attention most. Today I really learned a lot simply from her help in organizing concepts I had learned. Although they were simple and I knew them I did not know how to access the information fluidly when talking, so her ability to organize the concepts best for me really helped me feel like I actually understood the use on my own. Thank you as always Mizuka sensei - although I couldn’t complete the homework this week, you effortlessly adapted and helped me with free conversation. I really appreciate that even in free conversation you note my weak points and build them into the next lesson so improvement continues for me. Talking in real time is difficult in a different language but your guidance has made it possible for me!
