I'm Thomas Inauen, a 39-year-old from Appenzell, Switzerland, now living in Tokyo, Japan. I originally trained as a carpenter, but my passion for martial arts and acrobatics led me to follow this path all the way to Japan. I’ve been practicing Aikido and acrobatics for many years and work independently as an instructor in both fields. Alongside this, I’m also passionate about languages and enjoy helping people learn. I love how mastering new skills opens doors, and I’m here to support you on your journey too.지도 경험
I’ve been a dedicated italki tutor for 5 years, gaining valuable experience with diverse students. Additionally, I have over 8 years of experience coaching acrobatics online with a global audience. I’ve also assisted Japanese Aikido teachers in Switzerland as a translator. These experiences have enriched my teaching skills and deepened my understanding of effective communication.
Recently, I launched my YouTube channel, 'Swiss German Storytime,' featuring engaging content on reading and listening comprehension. I also run a Patreon page with Swiss German materials to support your learning. 내 강의 및 지도 스타일
In my classes, we will primarily focus on conversation, as I believe it’s one of the most effective ways to learn a language. We can discuss any topics that interest you, and I will provide corrections and introduce new vocabulary along the way. Feel free to ask any questions, and if you’re facing challenges with grammar, we can address those together.
If you have specific topics or questions you’d like to cover, please let me know before the lesson and share any relevant materials, such as PDFs or pictures. I’m open to suggestions and aim to create the best possible learning experience for you!

Thomas is such a patient and encouraging teacher. I enjoy talking about many interesting cultural, social and worldwide current events, and to boot, these topics introduce new and varied vocabulary. Thomas also has a myriad of additional learning resources (iTalki and other web-based platforms) from songs, in-depth cultural articles and grammar guides. It can be difficult, but I'm grateful for the opportunity to think and speak in another language and learn so much about how another culture experiences the world. Thomas is definitely your best resource for learning Swiss German!
