Today, I finally went to my local Hot Yoga Studio after over a year (of living near it? of wanting to go?). Hot Yoga is a kind of Yoga, which is done at 40 degrees Celsius.
I went there on my bike and was very enthusiastic about the class. Then suddenly I saw black and my whole system shut down. My yoga teacher, a very open, empathetic lady, kept telling me to breathe calmly and deeply. I went on and did the less intensive exercises to calm my system. In that moment I realized how high my stress level was and the tension which I had been feeling over the last couple of weeks, or maybe even the last year. It was very annoying and frustrating, I tried to breathe and wanted to break the cycle. Impossible. Then I realized I had to let go of wanting it too much, which only ended in holding my breath. In Hot Yoga we have the chance to focus on three components: the breath, the heat, and the exercise. The trick is to put all your power into one exercise and then be able to relax from one second to the next.
Why do I like this kind of yoga?
I think it makes you more resilient and it doesn't let you lie to yourself. It’s like a mirror. If you’re stressed, not focusing on yourself and not being mindful you will fail. It needs endurance, human willpower and a clear mind. I appreciate that sport in all areas in our modern fast-paced daily life.
