Hi everyone! I’m learning Mandarin and Spanish and I was wondering if 是and很 have similar uses to ser and estar? Maybe not the exact same ones but close enough? I’m still trying to differentiate 是and很. ¡Hola todos! Estoy aprendiendo chino y español y me estaba preguntando si 是y很tienen usos similares a ser y estar? Quizás no los exactos pero lo suficientemente parecido? Aún trato encontrar la diferencia de 是y很. Thank you/gracias/谢谢!

Hi Kira! 是/很They are different. ‘是’ is kinda like ‘be’ in English, and always be used in front of none, for example 🌟他是我的爸爸➡️He is my dad.(是 is translated into ‘is’ here) ‘很’ is an adv. like ‘very’, ‘so’, for example 🌟她很高兴➡️She is very happy ( Here,’很’ is ‘very’) But, I can get what you mean. That’s because the difference between Chinese thought and English thought. For example, when Chinese people say “她很漂亮”,people with English thoughts will translate this sentence directly like ‘She is so beautiful’ . Now, you might be confused, there’s no 是in the sentence, but why there still have ‘is’ in English version. Because 是 is omitted here. So, maybe that’s why you thought they have meaning in common. I hope it will help you:)
