I’m from Brazil and I live in São Luis, capital of the Maranhão, a state of northeast of Brazil. My city is a small island with beautiful beaches.
First, I added the “and” within the first part just to sound more natural. When we talk about countries we don’t use the definite article “the”, just if it’s in the country’s name like “The United States”. Also we use the indefinite articles a/an differently: we use A before consonant sounds and AN before vowels sounds.
