Mexicans have a special word for our meal time, it's a kind of greeting. This word is 'Provecho'. It's not matter if it's breakfast, lunch or dinner we always say this greet to whoever is eating. As well, it's not matter if we know or not to this person. Also, it's not matter if we are ging to start eating, if we are already eating or we have finished eating, we say this word anyway. This greeting means 'Enjoy your meal'.

Also, it's not matter of whether we are going to start eating, are already eating or have finished eating, we say this word anyway. This greeting means 'Enjoy your meal'.
To use 'if' as you did is not so bad, but 'whether...or... / whether or not...' would seem more natural. It could be worth studying connectors using 'whether' :)
