How are you guys doing? Did you know that there is a festival about to take place all over India? It's Holi, the festival of colors. this festival is celebrated all over India but in different styles. Schedule:- this festival lasts for 2 days. this number of days can vary place to place. on the first day people usually cook delicious food and prepare to visit Holika Dahan at night. Holika Dahan is about to burn a pile of woods. Religious reason is, once in the past there was a cruel king named Hiranyakashypu. He was a demon king. He conquered the gods and believed that the Lord Vishnu is hiding from him and consider him as coward. His son named Prahlad, was worshiping Lord Vishnu. so that was the most irritating thing for him. so to punish his son he made several cruelties upon him. one day he sent his sister to burn his son with fire. her name was Holika. Holika has a boon that she can't be burned by fire. so she sit on fire with Prahlad but Holika burned and Prahlad couldn't. people burn that pile of woods in the remembrance of that day. Women sing folk songs around the fire. Men also organize folk songs with some musical instruments. (she had a boon so how it is possible? - because she used that boon for a wrong purpose so it didn't work) so we celebrate this day as Victory of good over evil. the 2nd day is about to play Holi with colors for half day then people take bath and visit each-other to greet. Note:- the tradition and the number of days of celebration, verity of food, style of playing Holi and the clothing can be different in different states in India. the above description is about Rajashan which is my home state. Alternative version of Holi:- Holi is celebrated in many different styles according to different state. one of my favorite is "Lathmar Holi" which is celebrated in Barsana, Uttarpradesh. in this, women beat men with stuff and men tries to protect themselves with a shield. What do you think about this festival?
