In order to find a good tutor for kids, I usually look at many different attributes. I don’t have kids of my own but I have two siblings and as the elder sibling, it was my duty to find a good tutor for my younger siblings. What I looked for in a tutor was experience, empathy and a motivating mindset. The reason I looked for experience was because the more you tutor, the more you become better and more effective at it. I also looked for empathy because to be an effective tutor, you need to be able to see things through your student’s eyes and that way you can be able to help them grow through their language learning journey. The way I found a good tutor for my siblings was through my university English teacher who introduced me to someone she believed was one of the best tutors she has ever met. What I value most in language teachers is the ability to be empathetic and accept their student’s mistakes without making them feel bad over mistakes.
