QUESTION: DOES IT HELP STUDENTS IF PARENTS PAY FOR THEIR UNIVERSITY EDUCATION? In Brazil, despite of we are the eighth richest country in the world, we’re not the eighth better country to live in, we don’t have the better schools, healthcare, security or anything else. Moreover, there are more than 13 million unemployed people. Currently, things are getting worse. Back in the days, if you’re lucky enough to get into the university and to be graduated, you could have a good job. Nowadays, the companies demand more and more and the wages are never enough to pay the most basic things. Unfortunately, education is not seen as a social right. As a matter of fact, in spite of what Constitution says, it’s a product that only richest people could have. After all, even if you get into a public college and you can’t afford your food, stay or materials, you probably will not graduate. Even if someone can work while study, it’s like getting blood out of a stone because you don’t have neither enough time nor energy to focus on anything and your mental health tends to go down. In a perfect world, it wouldn’t happen. Therefore, if the parents of someone can afford their child’s education, it’s awesome! Unfortunately, we’re raised and taught to see the poverty and unemployment as individual failures instead of our system’s failure. So, once for all, what about we stand out against this injustice and cut students some slack for a change?
