In addition to the Coronavirus situation which has ravaged the whole world, the Brazilian city of Manaus has been dealing with another grim situation: the shortage of oxygen in the hospitals of the city. Manaus is one of cities which was more affected (if not THE most affected) by the Coronavirus in Brazil and the surge of cases in the last few weeks made the stock of oxygen in the city deplete quickly. The news about such a problem came to light on the 14, when people in the hospitals of the city started asphyxiating to death due to lack of oxygen. According to what have been reported, the impending crises was already known to the federal government six days before the collapse; however, little was done to avoid it. Air Force Planes were sent to take oxygen cylinders to the city, but in an insufficient amount. Health Minister Eduardo Pazuello went to the city to check the situation out, but did little aside from promoting the usage of medicines such as the hydoxicloroquine and invermectin, which have been largely considered by President Bolsonaro as the best way to prevent the disease, even though there is no medical evidence that those medicines are good options to fight the disease. Trucks and planes have been sent to take oxygen to the city, but nothing that has been done so far was enough to solve the situation and the issue still doesn't have an ultimate solution.

* by coronavirus in Brazil OR by the coronavirus pandemic in Brazil. I would change the sentence to “Manaus is one of the cities the hardest/worst hit by coronavirus in Brazil.” I know that doesn’t specifically mention the “if not” bit, but I think it sounds more natural. 🙂 Excellent!
