In Colombia we celebrate both holidays.  I often give gifts cards because I don't like to shop for clothes as gifts because it's to guess what other people like.

Regardless of being against consumerism, Christmas is a period for sharing and it includes meals and presents. At home (close family), we tend to give each other things that you know the other person might need or will use.

In my hometown we celebrate Xmas day, New years eve and new year, and the 3 wise men day.

And although winter is not coming yet (there is still more than a month left!) I feel as if we were in Christmas period because streets already have Christmas lights (not lit yet) and supermarkets sell nougats and other Christmas products.

Hi, Luliia! I leave in Ukraine. Our 50 mln nation celebrates Christmas and New Year. Some people celebrate St. Nocolas and Christmas in December, other (according to new style) - in January. New Year is celebrated on the 31st of December.

Christmas is a family day. It's not popular advent calendar in Ukraine. We have a dinner on Christmas eve after the first star appeared. We prepare 12 dishes among which is "kutia". It is wheat cooked with honey and dried apricots.

New Year is family holiday too. However many young people prefer to "meet new year" with their family and then continue to celebrate with friends. Previouse years were very loud: a lot of firecrackers, fireworks and songs. Due to the war now many people do not celebrate loudly outdoor or don't celebrate it at all. We respect those families whose men are on the forefront.
