Brush the teeth 3 time a day

I am Brazilian and here we brush our teeth three times a day, they have told me that Americans do not have this habit why?

The general recommendations are twice a day. But anyway, what matters is the WAY you brush, rather than the frequency. I rather have people brush once only , but REALLY properly, than 3 or 4 times quickly and badly !

When I was young we were told to brush after every meal, or 3 times a day. When I got older I found out that brushing too often can wear out your teeth, and that it's only required to brush once every 16 hours to prevent gum disease, gingivitis, etc. So the American Dental Association recommends brushing twice a day, and that's what I do.

I live on the east coast of USA, usually we brush our teeth in the morning and at night, twice a day. We work during the day / we do not carry a toothbrush with us during the day. Some people carry floss, but not toothbrushes. I don't really know why, just probably the way society is.
