I could not understand why would some people register a new account here and say it's their first language exchange while they are actually not. What's the meaning of lying for this? I had been language partner with someone for three month. The first day we had language exchange he said it's his first time to do this. And he said several times afterwards that online friends were quite new to him- even though I discovered by accident that he other accounts here years ago. It is true that I was the one who made online friends for the first time when I made an italki here. But I really could not understand what's the meaning to bother to create a new account and even bother to lie for this? Yes, I agree it's not important. But it's because it's not important that my curiosity burned brighter.

The language partner previously registered on italki and now is their first language exchange.
Perhaps Shirley assumes that registering on italki automatically means a person has had a language exchange. That is not the case. I am sure plenty of people register, but then suddenly lose interest in leanring a language and never actually get to langauge exchange.
Perhaps, the person only registered a long time ago, but never had properly spoke to someone on language exchange and then forgot the password. Hence the new account (as Camilo said).
Perhaps the first time to do this meant "first time doing this in Chinese-English".
So there can be other reasons for the misinterpretation, maybe that person isn't so bad after all. You would need to clarify before you think they are a bad person. After all, it's easy to make mistakes
That's kind of weird yeah, I don't know why... Maybe he wants to avoid some people he met through the other account?
I signed up for iTalki over a year ago and never used it until this month, so while it shoes I have had my account for a long time, I just had my first conversation today.
It is needless to regard these people who make you feel bizzare or strange and you do not have to waste time to contact those people who do not have language proficiency to practice with you.
Just like you said , it is not important ,so you can ignore this completely .
If I were you , I may thought I think too much , maybe they are not the same person .
