Please, explain to me, why we have to put "taken" here?

Simone's TAKEN to wearing a helmet whenever she goes cycling.

When the words "taken to" are followed by a gerund, such as "wearing", it means that they have started to do that thing with regularity, like a new habit.

Means "has started to want to wear a helmet".
