Hello
Could you, please, give me another word for "spend" but with a slight negative meaning. It's not "waste". The meaning of waste is too strong. I need something between "spend" and "waste/blow".
Maybe it would mean to spend much more than required in fact. I would use that word when I spend money on some products in a company. I need those products, however I could spend less than I do now. Maybe "overspend"?:)
"overspend" expresses the idea that you spent too much.
If you spend a lot of money on something which was a luxury or not necessary, you could say "splash out on". It's informal.
e.g. When I need a car, I usually buy a Mini but this time I had just received a big bonus, so I splashed out on a Jaguar.
You still needed a new car but you didn't need to buy such an expensive one.
