Yes, absolutely!

Which would you rather spend two hours doing:

1. listening to music, and looking up the lyrics to find out what they mean, before writing a diary entry about them

or 

2. listening to the news, and reading an article from a test, before writing an essay about them?

I think if you're interested in the material you're studying, it really lets you study better - and study more, without feeling tired.
