Can you understand this?

I think this video is a good example of a southern (American) accent. I'm curious to see how well y'all can understand the man in the baseball cap:

It was hard.  Sometimes, I was down to getting the gist only.  And they subtitle Ozzy Osbourne in the USA, but not this bloke!

Yes I understand him but I have to concentrate to do so. Whereas normally (most) American accents are no different to (most) British ones in terms of ease of understanding for me.

It's a pretty rural southern accent that wouldn't be very common to hear in the areas that international tourists are likely to visit, but it is the stereotypical southern accent that one might assume everyone in the southern US spoke in if you'd never been there. I kind of expected to hear that accent more often when I moved to the southern US from the west coast, but I've found it to be fairly uncommon. I think more confusing than his accent is his arrangement of words, "I just had got done feeding" Is a really awkward way to say, "I just finished feeding." Anyway, good luck in your studies!

'Learnt' is actually the more common participle in the UK (or at least as common as the 'ed' form, as are 'burnt', 'smelt' etc.)

Anyway... I guess the '88' is because he likes Dale Earnhardt Jr. No surprise, what with Nascar being huge in the south of the United States. 88 has also been adopted by neo-Nazis as a symbol of sorts, with 'H' being the 8th letter of the alphabet, 88 = HH = Heil Hitler (thank you American History X.) But I'll go with the Dale Earnhardt Jr. thing...

Out of curiosity, do you have any problems understanding the guy being interviewed here?
