what's the effective way to have conversations with your language partners

Hi, everybody ! Do you meet some embarrassing moments that you have no idea what you should to talk about when you have a voice call with your foreigner language partners( maybe just because our second languages are not good enough) . However, that experience maybe prevent us from talking with that people again so that it seem meaningless to find a partner to learn language. Do you think so? what is your opinion? :)

I have a language partner whom I meet with once a week. Each time, for an hour, we take turns reading stories to each other, asking questions and explaining things as we go. Along the way, we find other things to talk about.

So depending on your (and your learning partner's) skill level, you might pick a children's story or short story, or a short piece of non-fiction. Try to keep it simple. (Stories like "Winnie the Pooh" or "Alice in Wonderland" or Doctor Seuss books are not good for this, because they have so many made-up and nonsense words).

Reading stories is a good way to practice pronunciation, learn the rhythm of the language, and gain vocabulary.

I have other language partners with whom I just talk, and we ask each other questions, tell each other funny stories, and discuss language learning.

Ask questions:
What did you do for the weekend/  What will you do for the weekend?
Have you watched any interesting movies or tv show
How's your family ?
How's your job? Anything new?

These 4 simples question are all you need.
And there are more questions to ask my friend.
