For a beginner it would be hard to find a novel easy enough to comprehend well I think. Nonetheless and although not originally written in English, The Little Prince might of some benefit especially as it is a story that plays with words. Along this same line and also more for an intermediate reader I would suggest Lewis Carrol's, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I'm sure others here will have great suggestions.
