I've been using this website for one year and a half, but someone asks me this question, I won't be able to answer. Does anyone know why Italki is called Italki?
Here is my suggestion:
Italki sounds like 'I talk' in English. You can 'talki' with teachers and language partners you meet here.
I've often joked that "italki" means "I talk to myself".
There's this weird prestige associated with starting your name with a lower-case "i". Obviously it comes from Apple's naming practices (the iPhone, iPod, etc.). It was a stroke of marketing genius on Apple's part, if I was part of the committee deciding on the name "iPod", I would've said it's a stupid name...how wrong I would've been!
