I'm learning English and I'm always finding it hard to start a conversation with foreign people. I have some USA friends and I don't really know what they care about. Then could anyone help me to list some topics to talk?
Hello I am a teenager from the US and some topics to discuss are...
Sports, especially football and basketball if you know the stats many will talk about it as the season is starting back up.
Politics, right now it is very tricky because of the hate going towards Donald Trump but many teens find the conversation amusing
Social media, many teens have social media from twitter to Facebook
Those are a few suggestions hope that helps :)
Americans are usually very outgoing and friendly, so it's easy to strike up a conversation! Lot of people enjoy talking about music, TV shows, movies, and other topics.
You could also start a conversation by sharing different aspects of your culture with them. What are the similarities and differences?
You can also ask your friends what they care about personally. Do they like a certain type of music? Do they have a favorite actor/actress?
There are endless possibilities! You just have to ask. Also, if you are a little afraid to talk about something in person, you can always talk to people online to get used to a topic.
How about sports? Most Americans know at least something about the basic sports news for their city. Ask about the sports they play, their favorite sport to watch, etc.
Alternately you can talk about the weather, travel, music.
Hopefully the people whom you meet on a forum like this are willing to meet you halfway, since we are all here to learn from each other. You shouldn't have to do all of the work :-)
