What is the most natural sentence structure:
"Что Дима хочет?"
"Что хочет Дима?"
Я хочу вина. (gen) Я хочу больше вопросов.
Я хочу бутылку вина. Я хочу Нину. Я хочу это платье! (acc)
Often this verb used with other verb, so its usage with a noun sometimes feels like somethign is omitted. A verb... Or somehting like 'на день рождения' (as a birthday gift). Or an word like "много".
In questions it is usually genitive: "чего он хочет?". Other regional varieties of Russian may prefer "что" too, I don't know:) Acc. vs Gen is unstable thing in Russian grammar.
It may sound rude, you know: "what does he want?", some unwanted visotor.
In some situations people may try to soften this... e.g. using "что" instead of "чего". More complicated and less intuitive way to say makes it a bit more 'abstract' and 'learned'...
But hearing this one expects continuation like "на день рожденья": which object he wishes to receive as a birthday gift?
- Может подарим ему клюшку?
- он не хочет клюшку(acc).
- а что(acc) он хочет?
Acc. has this "which object" shade.
I feel they are identical, the word order doesnt make any difference, although if i put " Он" instead of "Дима", the phrase "Что он хочет?" sounds much more natural.
"Что хочет он?" would sound too bookish, unless you say its in a very serious intonation of your voice.
Both are correct and natural.
for example:
1. Что Дима хочет на день рождения?
2. Что хочет Дима на день рождения?
No matter as to say. Both are correct.
But sometimes...for example... If Дима bother me and i can't understood why. And i'm a little angry.
Если Дима постоянно задает какие-то вопросы, я не могу понять для чего это и меня это немного раздражает, то я скажу так...
I say:
Что Дима хочет от меня?
Я как бы акцентирую.
