Hello dear Italki members!
We all know the song "Woman", by John Lennon... However, I would like to know whether there are any songs in your language which honour women, and if so, could you please post them here? Thank you!
Here is one in French that I absolutely love: "Femmes, je vous aime", by Julien Clerc.
Thank you both!
EnglishGeek, that Russian song sounds so nice!
Dan, thank you so much for sharing this, I absolutely LOVE IT :-)
I am honestly not sure what modern-day feminists make of this one, but I like it.
The title is "Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better," by Irving Berlin, from the show Annie, Get Your Gun.
The show is based loosely on the career of Annie Oakley. By age 15, she had developed a truly outstanding talent in sharpshooting. This was supposed to be something only men could do. Annie Oakley beat Frank Butler in a shooting competition, and went on to a long and successful career showing off her amazing skills in Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show.
In real life, as in the show, the two became married and had a long and happy marriage. Wikipedia notes that "It is believed that Oakley taught upwards of 15,000 women how to use a gun."
The song itself begins at 1:08, just after the character Frank Butler says, arrogantly, "It's gonna be a pleasure giving you a lesson in long-distance marksmanship," and Annie Oakley replies, "You couldn't give me a lesson in long-distance spittin'." She insists that there isn't a thing that she, and by extension all women, can't do--and better then men.
This is old one. In Russian.
