Why is it hard to understand some tongues speaking English ?

Hi all,

I was talking with a friend today and asked her about the most non preferable tongues to talk with. So i thought of why is it hard to understand some tongues speaking English ?

When i started here i was thinking that i can speak with each person who can speak well. But after awhile i began to think that it's not important how the other person speaks well as much as how i understand him well.

What's your opinion and what are the hardest tongues for you to understand ?

It depends for me. I have a hard time understanding people who speak really fast spanish. By the time I understand the very first word, they are on the third paragraph. :)

You mean 'which accents are the hardest to understand in English', I suppose.

Any rapidly spoken native accent for me - New York, cockney, standard issue London youth...yep, that's it. Non native speakers tend not to be as fluent, even though they may have a good grasp of grammar, and are ironically easier to understand because they speak more slowly as a result.
