How to read "support"

Hello, everyone.

When I was a student, our English teacher taught us that the word "support" could be read in two ways.

If it's a noun then  the stress is on the first syllable  "support"

If it's a verb then the stress is on the second syllable "support"

I have doubts as people always say "support"

Please, help me to understand which is correct.

Thank you in advance

I am a native speaker (American English), and I have only heard "support".

"support" is the only way I have heard it.

As a native English speaker I have never actually given thought to this, but thinking about it now there is a slight difference. It's extremely small and no one would notice it if you stressed the wrong vowel. Us native speaker definitely don't notice!
