5,000 Spanish Words in 100 days: anyone want to try this with me?

Here's the details:

https://medium.com/@citizenkevin/a-5-000-spanish-word-vocabulary-in-100-days-5239289211e9#.5wl75zr8h

I'm not starting from scratch (lived in Mexico and Colombia for a few months, live in Miami now), but it's okay if you are.

Not only do I have a pilot episode to make, but I'm sick of not being able to speak spanish well.

So if there's a few people motivated to learn spanish quickly out there.....somewhere.....let's see how far we can take this!

I read your post and think it's an interesting idea, but I question if it will really help you. (You don't say what your level is.) You'll have a ton of new words that you'll remember, but will you know how to use them in context?

It seems to me you'd make better progress towards your goal if you were to take lessons or do an exchange with Colombians. As part of the lessons, you could think about some of the scenarios you'd find yourself in and then practise those and learn vocabulary related to those topics. You could then memorize the new words using Anki.

You say your biggest challenge is speaking, so you need to speak with native speakers or speakers with a higher level then you. Studying flashcards on general vocabulary with other learners won't help you as much.

@Chris

Thanks for the comment. I completely agree.

Vocabulary just happens to be one segment of the language learning process that I think can be done more quickly with a focused collaboration between people. What I described isn't meant to be a comprehensive language learning process.

I should probably update the link to make that clear......

Grammar and pronunciation are things that need to be practiced and studied, but I don't see any benefits from collaborating on them (other than the general enjoyment of working with people together on something. Which is really valuable, but doesn't necessarily save any time.)

And there's no replacement for having conversations. Luckily I have to use spanish every day. And i'll probably get a dedicated practice partner/teacher to increase the feedback.

We'll see how it pans out. Thanks again for the feedback.
