Is it effective to take lessons with teacher if you have intermediate level?

I want to ask Is it effective to take lessons with teacher on this level?

Hi Valery,

Usually, the people who really want to jump to advanced level are also the ones facing the various language exams.  In that case,  lessons with a teacher - I mean, lessons designed to help you make progress - will be effective.

Having taught classes at advanced level, I've noticed that self-motivation is still an issue in spite of the students' knowledge of English. Also, I've seen people's English levels drop because they relied on "just chatting" or "watching movies and films" without any focus or goal. They were basically going around in circles.
