You most certainly can read for a degree but perhaps most Americans will not have heard it used this way.

Earning a degree is possible but I would prefer studying for a degree.

Hi Lucy,

In English you would say "I am going to Philippines to earn a Master's degree in one year" not "read".

Perhaps, you can look online and find schools that offer master's program. Good luck.
