As Eugene said: English, German and French sometimes. Spanish also happens. And Italian.

Young people often study Japanese on their own but this has nothing to do with business:) It is beacuse of Japanese anime (and culture in general). Guys in Far East may have it in school too i.. hope. Chinese gradually raises more and more interest, both in educational institutions (business) and among enthusiasts.

Note that many of us order a lot of stuff at aliexpress: they ship for free to Russia. SO this is easy: you want a lather belt or a cam, you order and here it is, be it 2 Euro or 10 euro or what.
This is not only electronics/textile etc, but often say, Chinese tea (so different from Assam tea and moslty very expensive in Moscow shops). But this is mostly young people.

Our government sometimes tries to fight with this. But why I told it - even in Belorussia or Moscow proximity of China is felt. What to say about Siberia?

In all Ukrainian schools we have to study English, and, rarely German or French. But most of ukrainian people don't know this languages, but almost everyone speak fluently in Russian. (Almost half of the country -native Russian speakers) so our nation is bilingual:)

Hi Vladana :)

Is Polish popular as a language in your country? (due to the closeness in location, and the similarities in the language themselves?)

Hope you are well!

In elementary schools kids learn English first and few years later get a second foreign language. When I was a kid it was up to the school to choose which second foreign language the kids will learn. The choice was very limited - German, French, Russian. My school picked German. I hear that nowadays it's up to the kids to choose which second foreign language they will learn and that they also have more to choose from. One language I know is being studied at schools is Chinese due to more and more Chinese companies doing business here.

In high-schools it is usually English and second foreign language (which is normally the SL learned in elementary school though if a child wishes to switch to another language they can but they will not be able to start from the beginning) + Latin in grammar schools.

Adults mostly learn German. We, regrettably, have a massive brain drain to German speaking countries so teaching German has become very lucrative.
