A proposal about important matters of standardisation

Technical communication is not yet perfectly standardised. Here is the compromise I would offer to America if I where head of CEN (the european standardisation institute):

- We give up the traditional European system for naming large numbers. So we make our billions the same as your billions. As of now, a Geman and French milliard is a billion in the English language. A German and french billion is a trillion in English.

- We accept the point as the universal decimal seperator. Everyone who does programming is used to it anyway.

In return, there is only this demand which should not surprise anyone:

- You fully adopt the SI system

What do you think? What are other possible standardisation issues to be included into the list and negotiated about? What issues have you had in practice?
